Here are brief notes for landlords regarding some risks that can present themselves at rental properties and how to address them.
Carbon Monoxide
This is a gas that is poisonous. It does not have any scent, nor does it have any color. Because of these properties, it can be a silent killer without the victim realizing that he is at risk. Some of the places where carbon monoxide can be emitted on the rental property are: appliances using gas, fireplaces, gas-powered water heaters, and space heaters that use gas. Wood-burning stoves also pose a risk.
A first precautionary step is to identify all risk areas having the potential to leak this dangerous gas and decide on a preventive maintenance plan. Make sure that there is adequate vent wherever these risks have been identified. Purchase and install carbon monoxide detectors. Mold or Fungi
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has advised that mold is the cause of many health problems, especially for those with respiratory diseases.
